Fabien Castanier Gallery se siente orgullosa en presentar la exposición “Memoria entre líneas” reúne pinturas, esculturas, dibujos e instalaciones de Aníbal Vallejo e Iván Castiblanco. Partiendo de temas distintos, estos dos artistas tienen en común la incuestionable calidad de su trabajo y la constante necesidad de experimentar con nuevas técnicas y materiales.
La obra de Aníbal Vallejo revela la formación en artes plásticas y diseño de modas del artista paisa. Sus pinturas, intervenidas con hilos, joyas, cables y bordados a mano e industriales, evidencian procesos de experimentación y búsqueda mediante los cuales el artista crea pinturas auténticas que dejan ver sus inquietudes al momento de crear. La repetición de patrones geométricos sobre un mismo plano y el manejo discreto del color hacen de sus obras imágenes minimalistas, aunque ricas en su creación y finamente intervenidas. La pintura de Vallejo pierde la cualidad bidimensional y se confunde con la escultura, gracias a las aplicaciones e intervenciones que se convierten en volúmenes e invaden los espacios.
La obra del artista bogotano Iván Castiblanco, compuesta por pintura, escultura e instalación, constituye imágenes y referentes de la memoria de su infancia: desde objetos que marcaron su niñez –triciclos, pelotas– hasta lugares que atesora, como las baldosas del piso del patio de su casa. Castiblanco ha hecho de sus obras ejercicios artísticos autoreferenciales que parecieran ser un intento por inmortalizar una época que recuerda con cariño y que sin duda lo marcó. Su obra es también el resultado de un trabajo arqueológico de sus recuerdos en donde no basta el objeto ni el personaje; también son necesarios los contextos en los que habitan. Por ello, es usual encontrar en sus obras paredes elaboradas, pisos, sombras y acabados que caracterizan una época y un lugar.
Estos dos artistas se interesan por encontrar formas propias de hacer sus obras, no quieren hacerlo “a la manera de”. Sus procesos de creación reflejan la inquietud por experimentar y buscar técnicas distintas de las tradicionales. Por último, es evidente una cualidad que tienen en común: la repetición como búsqueda de la perfección, tanto en los patrones de una misma obra como en la prolongación de las series o de las técnicas.

Fabien Castanier Gallery is proud to present “Memoria entre líneas” a group show that combines paintings, sculptures, drawings and installations from the Colombian artists Aníbal Vallejo and Iván Castiblanco. Although their work emerges from different standpoints, these two artists share and interest in finding their own way of creating their pieces, they resist in making their work “in resemblance as”, their processes reflect a yearning to try and find new techniques outside from the traditional approach. It is also noticeable that they both peruse a quest for perfection, which is achieved by the repetition with in their work, both in the patterns within a single piece, as in the perpetuation of the series or the techniques.
Vallejo’s work focuses on the boundaries of painting and its possibilities. Beyond the formal and conventional techniques he wants to search new forms to be integrated into the process. His training, as a plastic artist and fashion designer, made him interested in elements outside the world of painting, which he tries to bring into the work: threads, fabrics, jewelry, industrial embroidery and especially hand embroidery that has the intimate character which reveals the true essence of things. The thread acquires special force because it rescues the gesture and plasticity of it with the value added of the tridimensional.
Castiblanco’s work has an archaeological quality to it; his constant necessity to investigate historical abandoned locations has pointed him to elaborate a specific investigation on the forgotten memory. Where he constructs a dialogue based on the found objects he collects in this archaeological hunts. Creating a close relationship between the past and the present, where these particular objects have an intrinsic remembrance that lives in the collective memory of the community, as these objects with such magical significance, compels the spectator to travel in to the lost consciousness of a cultural society.
